Burger Patties

Caramelized Onions

Cheese and Toppings

Method

Prepare the Caramelized Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onion

Peel and thinly slice the medium onion.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

  3. 3

    Caramelize the Onion

Once the oil is hot, add the sliced onions. Stir occasionally and cook for about 10 minutes until they are golden brown.

  4. 4

    Add Vermouth

Pour in 0.5 cup of vermouth and continue cooking for an additional 5-7 minutes until the liquid is reduced and the onions are deeply caramelized. Remove from heat.

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 5

    Form the Patties

In a bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix gently and form into two equally sized patties.

  2. 6

    Cook the Patties

In the same skillet used for the onions, cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness. Place 2 slices of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns

Cut the burger buns in half and toast them lightly in the skillet until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a leaf of lettuce, followed by one cheeseburger patty, a portion of caramelized onions, and a slice of tomato. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then cover with the top half of the bun.
