Method

Preparing the Filling

  1. 1

    Cook the Meat

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables

Stir in the diced carrots and cook for about 5 minutes. Then add the ground beef or lamb, cooking until browned.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the meat is browned, drain excess fat, and add the frozen peas, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Filling

Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preparing the Mashed Potatoes

  1. 5

    Boil the Potatoes

In a large pot, add the cubed potatoes and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 6

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Assembling the Shepherd's Pie

  1. 7

    Layer the Filling

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). In a baking dish, spread the meat and vegetable filling evenly at the bottom.

  2. 8

    Add the Mashed Potatoes

Spoon the mashed potatoes over the filling, spreading them out evenly. You can use a fork to create a pattern on top.

  3. 9

    Bake the Pie

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
