Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onions and carrots, and sauté for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic and Meat

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then, add the ground lamb or beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Season and Combine

Once the meat is browned, stir in the Worcestershire sauce, broth, frozen peas, salt, and black pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.

Mashed Potato Preparation

  1. 4

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add the cubed potatoes and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes until tender. Drain well.

  2. 5

    Mash Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add the butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Assemble and Bake

  1. 6

    Layering

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). In a baking dish, spread the meat filling evenly at the bottom. Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading it out evenly.

  2. 7

    Bake

Using a fork, create some texture on the mashed potatoes. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  3. 8

    Serve

Let the shepherd's pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your traditional shepherd's pie!
