Pierce each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape, then rub them with vegetable oil and sprinkle with salt.

Once the potatoes are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes until they are manageable to handle.

Cut each potato in half lengthwise and scoop out some of the flesh to create a boat-like shape, leaving some potato for texture.

Place the potato skins on a baking sheet. If using fries, prepare them according to your preferred method (frozen or fresh).

Sprinkle the insides of the potato skins or fries with black pepper and layer on the shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon.

Return the loaded potato skins or fries to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
