Method

For the Fried Green Tomatoes

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Wash and slice the green tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices.

  2. 2

    Make the Breading

In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.

  5. 5

    Bread the Tomatoes

Dip each tomato slice into the egg mixture, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Tomatoes

Carefully place the coated tomato slices in the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  7. 7

    Drain

Remove the fried tomatoes from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

For the Spicy Rémoulade

  1. 8

    Mix the Rémoulade

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, minced garlic, lemon juice, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.

  2. 9

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the rémoulade and adjust seasoning with more salt or hot sauce if desired.
