Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel the Potatoes

Begin by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler to remove the skin, if desired.

  2. 2

    Cut the Potatoes

Once peeled, cut the potatoes into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick. This will help ensure that they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks into a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato sticks and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of dried potato sticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Immediately season with salt, pepper, and paprika while they’re still hot.

  5. 8

    Repeat

Repeat the frying process with the remaining potato sticks, ensuring the oil temperature stays consistent.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve the Fries

Once all the fries are cooked and seasoned, transfer them to a serving platter. They can be served as is or with your favorite dipping sauces.
