Method

Custard Preparation

  1. 1

    Heat Milk

In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is hot but not boiling.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt.

  3. 3

    Whisk Egg Yolks

In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks until they are light and frothy.

  4. 4

Combine Dry Ingredients with Egg Yolks

Gradually add the dry mixture to the egg yolks, whisking constantly until well combined.

  5. 5

    Add Milk

Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs.

  6. 6

    Cook Custard

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

  7. 7

    Add Vanilla

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the custard cool slightly before using.

Layering the Dessert

  1. 8

    Slice Bananas

Peel and slice the ripe bananas into thin rounds.

  2. 9

    Layer Ingredients

In serving bowls or cups, start by placing a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom.

  3. 10

    Add Custard

Spoon a layer of the prepared custard over the wafers, ensuring they are well covered.

  4. 11

    Add Bananas

Place a layer of banana slices on top of the custard.

  5. 12

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the layering process with remaining wafers, custard, and banana slices until the bowls are filled.

  6. 13

    Top with Whipped Cream

Finish with a generous dollop of whipped cream on top of each dessert.

  7. 14

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
