Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually mix in the cocoa powder, then add the powdered sugar and milk alternately, beating until the frosting is smooth and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Chocolate Sauce Preparation

  1. 9

    Make the Chocolate Sauce

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until smooth and glossy.

  2. 10

    Drizzle the Sauce

Drizzle the warm chocolate sauce over the frosted cake before serving.
