Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, lime juice, and black pepper. Whisk until well mixed.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Ahi Tuna

Place the Ahi tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Napa Cabbage

While the tuna is marinating, thinly slice the napa cabbage and place it in a large bowl. You can optionally drizzle a little lime juice and olive oil over it for added flavor.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Grill

Preheat your hardwood grill to a high temperature. Ensure that it is hot enough to achieve a good sear.

  2. 5

    Cook the Ahi Tuna

Remove the tuna from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking. Place the tuna steaks on the grill and sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare doneness.

  3. 6

    Serve

Once cooked, remove the tuna from the grill and let it rest for a minute. Slice the tuna and serve it over the bed of napa cabbage.
