Preparing the Burger Patties

Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use your hands to mix until just combined.

Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing while cooking.

Add Cheese (Optional)
If using cheddar cheese, place a slice on each patty in the last minute of cooking to melt.
Assembling the Burger

Prepare the Buns
While the burgers are cooking, slice the brioche buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

Slice the Toppings
Slice the tomato and onion into thin rings.

Build the Burger
Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked burger patty, slices of tomato, onion rings, and the top half of the bun.
