Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

Bake the Cakes
Evenly distribute the batter among the three prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Beat the Butter
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Assemble the Cake

Layer the Cakes
Place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting on top.

Repeat Layers
Add the second layer of cake and repeat the frosting process. Top with the third layer of cake.

Frost the Top and Sides
Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.

Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the top and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings.
