Method

Preparing the Brisket

  1. 1

    Season the Brisket

In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture evenly over the brisket.

  2. 2

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the brisket and sear on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.

  3. 3

    Prepare for Cooking

Transfer the seared brisket to a slow cooker. Slice the onion and crush the garlic cloves, then add them to the slow cooker along with the beef broth.

Cooking the Brisket

  1. 4

    Slow Cook the Brisket

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.

  2. 5

    Rest the Brisket

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.

Preparing the Sides

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the brisket is cooking, peel and chop the potatoes and carrots into bite-sized pieces. Trim the ends of the green beans.

  2. 7

    Boil the Vegetables

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the potatoes and carrots, cooking for about 10 minutes. Then add the green beans and cook for another 5 minutes until all vegetables are tender.

  3. 8

    Finish the Sides

Drain the vegetables and return them to the pot. Add butter and toss until melted and evenly coated.

Serving

  1. 9

    Slice and Serve

Slice the brisket against the grain into thin slices. Serve with the buttered vegetables on the side.
