Prepare the Burger Patties

Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Shape the Patties
Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty, about ¾ inch thick.

Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are golden brown.
Prepare the Chili Topping

Heat the Chili
In a small saucepan, heat the canned chili over medium heat until it is warmed through, stirring occasionally.

Melt the Cheese
Once the burgers are cooked, place a generous amount of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover with a lid. Allow the cheese to melt for about 1-2 minutes.
Assemble the Burger

Build the Burger
Place each burger patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Spoon a generous amount of heated chili over each patty.

Add Toppings
Top the chili with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of chopped green onions, if desired. Place the top half of the bun on each burger.
