Method
Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder. Season it generously with smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
- 2
Sear the Pork
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sear the pork on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from heat.
- 3
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seared pork into a slow cooker. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, chicken broth, and BBQ sauce. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the cooker and mix it with the remaining sauce.
Coleslaw Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Vegetables
Shred the green cabbage and carrot using a grater or food processor.
- 6
Mix the Coleslaw
In a large bowl, combine the cabbage, carrot, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Toss until well combined.
- 7
Chill the Coleslaw
Cover the coleslaw and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Sandwich Assembly
- 8
Assemble the Sandwich
Toast the burger buns if desired. Layer a generous amount of pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a scoop of coleslaw. Add pickles if using.
- 9
Serve
Place the top half of the bun on the sandwich and serve immediately.
