Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Brisket
Trim any excess fat from the brisket, leaving about a quarter-inch layer for flavor. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels.
- 2
Mix the Rub
In a bowl, combine salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar. Mix well to form a spice rub.
- 3
Season the Brisket
Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket, ensuring it's evenly coated. Cover the brisket with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.
- 4
Prep the Vegetables
Chop the onions into quarters and mince the garlic cloves.
Cooking
- 5
Sear the Brisket
Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add a little oil and sear the brisket for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
- 6
Add Vegetables and Liquid
Transfer the brisket to a slow cooker. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic around the brisket. Pour Worcestershire sauce and beef broth over the top.
- 7
Cook the Brisket
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the brisket is tender and can be shredded easily with a fork.
- 8
Rest and Serve
Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 20 minutes before slicing. Serve with the vegetables and cooking juices.
