Method
Preparing the Potatoes
- 1
Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even sticks, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
- 2
Soak the potato sticks in cold water for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch.
- 3
After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
Frying the Potatoes
- 4
Heating the Oil
In a large, deep pot or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.
- 5
Frying the Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of potato sticks to the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
- 6
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Seasoning the Fries
- 7
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Toss to coat evenly.
Serving
- 8
Serve the fries hot, either on their own or with your favorite dipping sauces.
