Dough

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough starts to form.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Boiling

  1. 5

    Shape the Bagels

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole in the center with your thumb to form a bagel shape. Stretch the hole gently to about 1-2 inches.

  2. 6

    Boil the Bagels

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully drop in the bagels, a few at a time, and boil for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  1. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 8

Apply Egg Wash and Sesame Seeds

Brush each boiled bagel with the egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds generously on top.

  3. 9

    Bake the Bagels

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
