Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Boiling

  1. 5

    Shape the Bagels

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole through the center to form a bagel shape.

  2. 6

    Second Rise

Place the shaped bagels on a floured surface, cover, and let them rest for another 20-30 minutes.

  3. 7

    Boil the Bagels

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil each bagel for about 30 seconds on each side. Remove and let them drain on a paper towel.

Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 9

    Add the Topping

In a small bowl, mix together sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, dried minced garlic, and coarse sea salt. Brush each boiled bagel with water and sprinkle the topping generously on each one.

  3. 10

    Bake the Bagels

Place the bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.

Cooling

  1. 11

    Cool and Serve

Remove the bagels from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy with your favorite spreads!
