Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into uniform sticks about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will result in crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This is crucial to prevent the oil from splattering.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of dried potato sticks to the hot oil. Avoid overcrowding the pot. Fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and drain them on paper towels. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss to coat evenly.

  5. 7

    Repeat

Repeat the frying process with the remaining potato sticks until all are cooked.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the French fries hot as a side dish or snack. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces.
