Method

Cornbread Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

  5. 5

    Bake Cornbread

Pour the batter into a greased 9x9 inch baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cornbread

Allow the cornbread to cool in the dish for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Dressing Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare Cornbread

Once the cornbread is completely cooled, crumble it into a large bowl.

  2. 8

    Sauté Vegetables

In a skillet, sauté the chopped celery and onion over medium heat until tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 9

    Combine Ingredients

In the bowl with the crumbled cornbread, add the sautéed vegetables, chicken or vegetable broth, sage, thyme, black pepper, salt, beaten eggs, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.

  4. 10

    Bake Dressing

Transfer the dressing mixture to a greased baking dish and bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes until heated through and golden on top.

  5. 11

    Serve

Let the dressing cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a side dish!
