Dough Preparation
- 1
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt until well combined.
- 2
Heat Milk and Butter
In a small saucepan, heat the whole milk and unsalted butter over low heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- 3
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- 5
Knead the Dough
On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- 6
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Frying
- 7
Prepare Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 8
Shape the Beignets
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into squares or rectangles, about 2-3 inches wide.
- 9
Fry the Beignets
Carefully drop a few beignet pieces into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 10
Dust with Powdered Sugar
Once the beignets are drained, generously dust them with powdered sugar before serving.
- 11
Serve Warm
Serve the beignets warm for the best taste and texture. Enjoy!
