Method
Focaccia Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead Dough
Using your hands or a stand mixer with a dough hook, mix until the dough comes together. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Baking Focaccia
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 6
Prepare Baking Pan
Grease a baking sheet or a 9x13 inch pan with olive oil.
- 7
Shape Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to the prepared baking pan. Gently stretch and press the dough to fit the pan.
- 8
Add Toppings
Dimple the surface of the dough with your fingers. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, and scatter the fresh rosemary and roasted garlic on top.
- 9
Second Rise
Cover the pan and let the dough rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- 10
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Serving Suggestion
- 11
Serve
Cut the focaccia into squares and serve warm. Optionally, drizzle with more extra virgin olive oil and serve with burrata cheese, if desired.
