Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for at least 1 hour to firm them up, making them easier to coat and fry.

  2. 2

    Setup the Breading Station

Set up a breading station by placing the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in another, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a third dish.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Remove the mozzarella sticks from the freezer. Dredge each stick in flour, dip in the beaten eggs, and then coat with the breadcrumb mixture. For extra crispiness, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully place the breaded mozzarella sticks into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, sugar, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally.

  4. 9

    Finish the Sauce

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving. Remove from heat.
