Calamari

Marinara Sauce

Method

Preparation of Marinara Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 2

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 3

Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens. Set aside.

Preparation of Calamari

  1. 4

    Prepare the Calamari

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  2. 5

In another bowl, whisk the egg and milk together until well combined.

  3. 6

Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.

  4. 7

    Fry the Calamari

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (around 375°F or 190°C).

  5. 8

Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 9

Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with additional salt if desired.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve the Dish

Arrange the fried calamari on a serving platter and serve hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
