Cake Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Cake Batter

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Combine All Ingredients

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Divide Batter

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Preparing the Molten Center

  1. 7

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  2. 8

    Mix in Sugar and Egg

Once melted, whisk in the powdered sugar until well combined. Then add the egg and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth and glossy.

Assembling the Cake

  1. 9

    Layer Cakes

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Using a spoon or spatula, create a small indent in the center of the cake layer.

  2. 10

    Add Molten Center

Pour half of the molten chocolate mixture into the indent on the first cake layer.

  3. 11

    Top with Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the first layer, making sure it aligns well.

  4. 12

    Serve

Slice and enjoy your rich chocolate cake with a molten center. Serve warm for the best molten effect!
