Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente (typically around 8-10 minutes).

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a small cup of pasta water.

Preparing the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  5. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it cook uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 9

    Adjust Consistency

If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

Serving

  1. 10

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the Bolognese sauce until well coated.

  2. 11

    Plate and Garnish

Serve the spaghetti Bolognese in bowls, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
