Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them and lining the bottoms with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the vegetable oil and sugar. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk until fully combined.

Dry Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make sure there are no lumps.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  1. 5

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  2. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  1. 7

    Dust and Serve

Once cooled, you can dust the top of the cakes with powdered sugar if desired. Serve slices of the rich and moist chocolate cake to enjoy!
