Gulf Shrimp Étouffée

Method

Gulf Shrimp Étouffée Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and celery, sautéing until the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Then, add the drained diced tomatoes, mixing well.

  3. 3

    Create the Sauce Base

Pour in the fish stock (or chicken broth) and sprinkle the Cajun seasoning over the mixture. Stir well to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, letting the flavors meld.

  4. 4

    Cook the Shrimp

Add the peeled and deveined Gulf shrimp to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  5. 5

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from heat and serve the étouffée in bowls, garnished with sliced green onions.
