Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle.

  3. 7

    Add Sauce

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or pizza peel. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 8

    Add Cheese and Basil

Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.

  5. 9

    Drizzle with Olive Oil

Drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil over the toppings and season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the hot pizza stone) and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  7. 11

    Cool and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven, allow it to cool for a couple of minutes, then slice and serve warm.
