Crostata and Gelato Ingredients

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Make the Crostata Crust

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Roll Out the Dough

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch tart pan, pressing it into the edges. Trim any excess dough.

  3. 3

    Bake the Crostata

Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork to prevent bubbling. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.

  4. 4

    Make the Sweet Cream Gelato

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract until well combined. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  5. 5

    Serve

Once the crostata has cooled, slice it and serve with a generous scoop of sweet cream gelato on the side.
