Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (around 110°F), sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make Dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Topping Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes to ensure a crispy crust.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle or your desired shape.
- 7
Add Sauce
Place the rolled out dough on a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 8
Add Cheese and Pepperoni
Tear the fresh mozzarella into smaller pieces and distribute evenly on top of the sauce. Add the pepperoni slices on top of the cheese.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- 10
Drizzle Spicy Honey
Once the pizza is done, remove it from the oven and drizzle the spicy honey over the top. If using, scatter fresh basil leaves for garnish.
- 11
Cut and Serve
Allow the pizza to cool for a couple of minutes, then cut into slices and serve hot.
