Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with an electric mixer until creamy and smooth.

Gradually add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake as desired.
