Method

Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting

  1. 7

    Prepare Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with an electric mixer until creamy and smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Cocoa Powder

Gradually add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.

  3. 9

    Incorporate Sugar and Milk

Add powdered sugar and milk alternately, beating well after each addition until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency.

  4. 10

    Finish with Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  5. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake as desired.
