Method

Cooking the Fries

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thick fries (about 1/2 inch wide).

  2. 2

    Soak the Fries

Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry.

  3. 3

    Fry the Potatoes

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 4

    Form the Patties

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions, shaping each into a 4 oz patty. Season with salt and black pepper.

  2. 5

    Cook the Patties

Grill or pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes on one side. Flip and add a slice of American cheese on top. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked to your desired doneness.

  3. 6

    Assemble the Burger

Toast the potato buns, then place the cooked patty on the bottom bun. Add bacon if desired, followed by lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles as per preference. Top with the other half of the bun.
