Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cutting the Fabric

Measure and cut 1 yard of cotton fabric and 0.25 yard of spandex fabric for added stretch. The cotton will be the main body of the shirt, and the spandex will be used for the cuffs and neckline.

  2. 2

    Prepare Sewing Machine

Set up your sewing machine with black thread. Ensure it is threaded correctly and test on a scrap piece of fabric.

Sewing

  1. 3

    Sew the Body

Fold the cotton fabric in half lengthwise with the right sides facing each other. Pin the edges and sew along the sides, leaving space for the armholes.

  2. 4

    Attach the Sleeves

Cut two rectangles from the remaining fabric for sleeves. Attach these sleeves to the armholes by pinning and sewing them in place.

  3. 5

    Add Cuffs and Neckline

Cut strips of spandex for cuffs and the neckline. Fold them in half, sew the ends, and attach them to the sleeve edges and neck opening, stretching slightly as you sew.

Finishing

  1. 6

    Hem the Bottom

Turn the bottom edge of the shirt inwards and sew a hem to prevent fraying.

  2. 7

    Iron the Shirt

Carefully iron the shirt to remove any wrinkles and to set the seams.

  3. 8

    Final Touches

Inspect the shirt for any loose threads or imperfections. Trim and adjust as necessary.
