Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a food processor, combine the walnuts, almonds, and cinnamon. Pulse until finely chopped but not powdered. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough according to package instructions. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Layer the Phyllo

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, brush the bottom with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with butter before adding the next. Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo.

  4. 4

    Continue Layering

Add 4 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter, followed by another layer of nut mixture. Repeat until all nut mixture is used, finishing with 8 sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter.

  5. 5

    Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.

  6. 6

    Bake the Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden and crisp.

  7. 7

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine honey, water, and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  8. 8

    Add the Syrup

Once the baklava is done baking, remove from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over it, ensuring it seeps into all the cuts. Let it cool completely before serving.
