Fried Calamari Ingredients

Method

Fried Calamari Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Coating

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

  3. 3

    Soak in Buttermilk

Place the calamari rings in a separate bowl and pour the buttermilk over them, ensuring they are well-coated. Let them soak for about 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

  5. 5

    Coat the Calamari

Once the calamari have soaked, remove them from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the fried calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
