Method
Preparation
- 1
Soak the Ham
Place the whole country ham in a large bucket or sink filled with water. Let it soak for 12-24 hours to remove excess salt. Change the water halfway through.
- 2
Prepare the Glaze
In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, black pepper, ground mustard, garlic powder, and cloves. Add 1 cup of water and heat over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
Cooking
- 3
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
- 4
Place the Ham in the Oven
Remove the ham from water, pat it dry with paper towels, and place it in a roasting pan, cut side down.
- 5
Add Water to the Pan
Pour 3 cups of water into the roasting pan to create steam and keep the ham moist during cooking.
- 6
Apply the Glaze
Brush the glaze mixture over the ham generously. Reserve some glaze for later basting.
- 7
Roast the Ham
Roast the ham in the preheated oven for about 15-18 minutes per pound. Baste with the reserved glaze every 30 minutes.
- 8
Check for Doneness
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C). This typically takes around 2.5 to 3 hours for a 10-12 lb ham.
- 9
Let it Rest
Once done, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
- 10
Serve
Slice the ham and serve warm. Enjoy with your favorite sides!
