Rinse and Drain Beans
Open the canned black beans and pour them into a colander. Rinse under cold water to remove excess sodium and drain well.

Prepare Ingredients
In a small bowl, combine the chile adobo, agave syrup, fresh lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
Cooking

Heat Beans
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the rinsed black beans. Pour in the mixture of chile adobo and other seasonings. Stir to combine.

Simmer
Allow the beans to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through and slightly thickened.

Smash the Beans
Using a fork or a potato masher, partially smash the black beans to your desired consistency, leaving some whole for texture.
Serving

Plate the Beans
Transfer the half-smashed black beans to a serving dish.

Add Toppings
Sprinkle the queso cotija and fresh cilantro over the top of the beans. Serve immediately.
