Preparing the Burger Patties

Mix the Beef
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined; avoid overworking the meat.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Prepare the Smoked Poblano Pepper
Roast the smoked poblano pepper over an open flame or under a broiler until the skin is charred. Remove from heat, let cool, then peel, seed, and slice.

Prepare the Jalapeños
Slice fresh jalapeños into rings. Adjust the amount to your spice preference.
Assembling the Burger

Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

On the bottom half of each bun, place a cooked burger patty, top with a piece of smoked poblano pepper, hot link, jalapeños, a generous drizzle of Art's hot BBQ sauce, and a sprinkle of cheddar-jack cheese. Place the top half of the bun on.
