Method
Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cookies bake evenly.
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until creamy and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
Mixing and Baking
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Fold in Mix-ins
Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed in the dough.
Scoop the Dough
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked; they will continue to cook on the baking sheet.
Cool and Enjoy
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Enjoy your delicious cookies!
