Method
Preparation of Pork
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this seasoning mix all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's well coated.
- 2
Prepare the Slow Cooker
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour the apple cider vinegar and water around the pork.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
Preparation of BBQ Sauce
- 4
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- 5
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
Serving
- 6
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is done cooking, remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
- 7
Serve
Serve the pulled pork on buns with the BBQ sauce drizzled on top, or on its own as a delicious main dish.
