Burger Patties

Caramelized Onions

Toppings

Method

Prepare Caramelized Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel and thinly slice the medium onions.

  2. 2

    Cook the Onions

In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes until they start to soften.

  3. 3

    Caramelize the Onions

Reduce the heat to low and continue cooking the onions for another 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized. Add 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

Make the Original Sauce

  1. 4

    Mix Ingredients

In a bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until smooth.

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 5

    Form Burger Patties

In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix gently and form the mixture into 4 equal patties.

  2. 6

    Cook the Patties

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

  3. 7

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place 1 cup of cheddar-jack cheese on top of each patty and cover to melt the cheese.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast 4 burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 9

    Build the Burger

Spread a generous amount of the original sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top, followed by a handful of lettuce and slices of tomato. Top with the caramelized onions.

  3. 10

    Finish and Serve

Place the top half of the bun on the burger. Serve immediately with your favorite side, such as fries or a salad.
