Prepare Caramelized Onions

Slice the Onions
Peel and thinly slice the medium onions.

Caramelize the Onions
Reduce the heat to low and continue cooking the onions for another 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized. Add 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
Make the Original Sauce

Mix Ingredients
In a bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until smooth.
Prepare the Burger Patties

Form Burger Patties
In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix gently and form the mixture into 4 equal patties.

Add Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place 1 cup of cheddar-jack cheese on top of each patty and cover to melt the cheese.
Assemble the Burger

Toast the Buns
Lightly toast 4 burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

Build the Burger
Spread a generous amount of the original sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top, followed by a handful of lettuce and slices of tomato. Top with the caramelized onions.

Finish and Serve
Place the top half of the bun on the burger. Serve immediately with your favorite side, such as fries or a salad.
