Dough

For Frying

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the butter, milk, and water to the flour mixture. Mix with a fork or your hands until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 2-3 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Combine Filling Ingredients

In a medium bowl, mix the fruit filling, sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch until well combined. Set aside.

Assembling and Frying

  1. 5

    Roll Out Dough

After resting, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into circles using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

  2. 6

    Fill and Seal

Place a tablespoon of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.

  3. 7

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 8

    Fry the Pies

Carefully place 2-3 pies in the hot oil, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  5. 9

    Serve

Allow the fried pies to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with a dusting of powdered sugar or a scoop of ice cream.
