Method
Prepare Catfish
- 1
Marinate the Catfish
In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk over the catfish fillets. Ensure they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to marinate.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
Fry the Catfish
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. The oil should be hot enough that a drop of the breading sizzles when added.
- 4
Dredge the Catfish
Take the marinated catfish out of the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each fillet in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- 5
Fry the Catfish
Carefully place the breaded catfish fillets into the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Prepare Sides
- 6
Make the Coleslaw
In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt. Toss until the mixture is well combined. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
- 7
Cook the French Fries
Prepare the French fries according to package instructions, either baking or deep-frying until golden and crispy.
Serve
- 8
Plating
On a serving plate, arrange the three pieces of catfish alongside a generous serving of coleslaw and French fries. Serve hot and enjoy!
