Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mash

In a large brew kettle, heat 5 gallons of water to about 165°F (74°C). Add the pale malt and corn, stirring well to ensure there are no clumps. Maintain the temperature for about 60 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sparging

After the mash is complete, drain the wort into another kettle, then rinse the grains with hot water (about 170°F/77°C) to extract additional sugars. Collect around 6-7 gallons of wort.

  3. 3

    Boil the Wort

Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. After 60 minutes, remove from heat.

  4. 4

    Cool the Wort

Cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches about 70°F (21°C).

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel and pitch the yeast. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment at a cool temperature (around 50-55°F/10-13°C) for about 2 weeks.

  6. 6

    Bottling

After fermentation is complete, dissolve the priming sugar in a small amount of boiling water and add to the beer. Bottle the beer, cap, and let it condition for another 1-2 weeks.

  7. 7

    Enjoy

After conditioning, chill the bottles and enjoy your homemade Sol Lager!
