Method
Preparation
- 1
Soak the Rice
Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
- 2
Prepare Banana Leaves
Soften banana leaves by briefly passing them over a flame or dipping them in hot water. Cut them into squares large enough to wrap the rice and bananas.
- 3
Mix Ingredients
Drain the soaked rice and mix it with coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a bowl until well combined.
Assembly
- 4
Wrap the Mixture
Take a piece of banana leaf, place a few spoonfuls of the rice mixture in the center, and add a baby banana on top. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and then roll it up tightly. Secure with kitchen twine or a toothpick.
Cooking
- 5
Steam the Khao Tom Mud
Place the wrapped bundles in a steamer basket over boiling water. Steam for about 30-40 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and has a slightly translucent appearance.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before unwrapping. Serve warm as a dessert or snack.
