Fried Chicken

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces and ensure they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In another bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and additional salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off the excess flour.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 12-15 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C).

  6. 6

    Drain and Rest

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
