Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Lobster

Rinse the Maine lobsters under cold running water to remove any sand or debris. Ensure they are alive and fresh.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Steamer

In a large pot, add 4 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Place a steamer basket inside the pot, making sure the water level is below the basket.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Bring to a Boil

Cover the pot and bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 4

    Add the Lobsters

Once the water is boiling, carefully add the lobsters to the steamer basket. Cover the pot with a lid.

  3. 5

    Steam the Lobsters

Steam the lobsters for about 12-15 minutes, or until the shells turn bright red and the meat is opaque and tender.

  4. 6

    Check for Doneness

To check if the lobsters are done, pull one out and check that the meat is firm and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Lobsters

Using tongs, remove the lobsters from the steamer and place them on a serving platter.

  2. 8

    Optional Serving

Melt 1 cup of butter in a small saucepan and serve alongside the lobsters, with lemon wedges for squeezing over the meat.
