Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the rib-eye steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Generously season both sides with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes. Once hot, add the olive oil.

  2. 4

    Sear the Steak

Place the seasoned rib-eye steak in the hot skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side, without moving it, until a nice crust forms.

  3. 5

    Flip and Cook

Flip the steak using tongs and sear the other side for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or cook longer depending on your desired doneness.

  4. 6

    Add Butter and Herbs (Optional)

If desired, add the butter and fresh rosemary to the skillet during the last minute of cooking. Baste the steak with the melted butter for added flavor.

Resting

  1. 7

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 8

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the steak against the grain and serve it on a plate. Optionally top with additional butter or herbs.
