For the Mozzarella Sticks

For the Marinara Sauce

Method

Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Coat the Cheese Sticks

In a shallow bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In another bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Dredge the Cheese Sticks

Take each mozzarella stick and dip it into the flour, shaking off the excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat it in the breadcrumb mixture.

  3. 3

    Chill the Sticks

Place the coated mozzarella sticks onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm them up.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Once the oil is hot, carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.
